The short survey trip in Celebes, of which this booklet is an account, was a small but noteworthy part of an extensive voyage in various parts of Asia, undertaken in 1938 by Mr. Rolf de Maré, the founder and president of Les Archives Internationales de la Danse at Paris. The purpose of his journey was the collection of documents on the dance for the files, library and museum of this institution (Claire Holt, "Preface").[]
